Discussion:
[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Help with LMS 7.9 please

I have just downloaded this into my iMac and all seems OK. However,
going into the Advanced settings page and selecting the Player tab I get
this message:

" Your player was not found.

If you own a Squeezebox or Transporter:

Make sure that your player is plugged in and its networking settings
are correct. Click the Refresh button once your player is connected."

I use a SBT but it is currently running via MSB as I use it for internet
radio streaming and have all my favourites stored on MSB so it isn't
dependent on the computer being on. Do I need to reconnect to my local
network for the SBT and LMS 7.9 to be able to talk to each other?

Thanks and regards,
Nick

Yes, both must be on the same network with same IP range. But should
not need to reconnect if already on the same network.
Tried selecting LMS from the player (not looking for player on web ui)?

And also give the local LMS your mysqueezebox.com credentials then I you
get a much more integrated experience .

You can switch players from the web UI and have all the apps from
mysqueezebox.com via the local LMS and reach your mysqueezbox.com
favorite via local LMS .

Thanks guys.

I tried the following via the menus on the SBT:

Settings/Advanced/Squeezebox Server: "Neither Logitech Media Server nor
the scanner are running". Odd because according to the computer it is
running

Then:

Start Logitech Media Server: "Squeezebox Touch detects no attached
storage device. Please attach either a USB device or SD card & try
again". Hmmm. That sounds like an option for an internal LMS but surely
it should still detect that LMS is running on the computer?

Any more ideas please?

Thanks,
Nick

OK. Yes it is. Under the Information tab I get a whole load of
information (Logitech Media Server Status) about the server, OS,
database version and it also says total players recognised: 1. It won't
let me copy & paste it though.

Under Status it says that the server is running.

Thanks,
Nick

In LMS on your iMac, in the drop down top right, are listed all players
on your network, you can "pull" any player connected to mysqueezebox.com
to your LMS.

On your pic the drop down menu is just to the left of the Logitech logo
at the top right of the screen. I have no such menu on mine. How do I do
this without the drop-down menu?

Thanks,
Nick

Odd!

On your SBT, on the "Home" screen, press "My Music", your SBT should
then connect to your local LMS

Thanks. I have done that so the SBT is now on the LAN. LMS can now see
the SBT but I am not getting the drop down menu on your pic yet.

So will the SBT and LMS only be able to talk to each other when the SBT
is on the LAN? I was hoping not, because, like I said, I prefer to have
the SBT connected via MSB so I don't have to rely on the computer being
switched on/awake.

Thanks and regards,
Nick

OK. I think we're getting there now. I have managed to install a few
radio-related plugins on LMS such as the new iPlayer plugin which gets
around the problem of certain BBC radio AAC streams not working when I
play them via Triode's BBC plugin. However, these new plugins are only
accessible when I have the SBT connected to the LAN. Is there any way to
access these plugins via MSB? Surely LMS can be accessed via the
internet? I'm guessing not but it would be much better if this was
possible.

Otherwise the only way I can access all the AAC BBC radio streams is by
having the computer on all the time. Bah.

Regards,
Nick

Why not invest in a small form unit, like a pi or similar? £30 or $50
whatever!

Funnily enough I was looking up the Raspberry Pi page on Wikipedia
recently. Can they do wi-fi, and are they easy to use?

Thanks,
Nick

Nick, where do you live?

I can post a link or two for you to do some research, also what is your
primary use case.

A budget figure might also help.

Do you need LMS v7.9 for a specific purpose?
The 7.8 that your Squeezebox Touch downloaded is a firmware update .

Well mainly it could be used, with LMS installed, as a small server for
the SBT so that I don't need to rely on the iMac when I want to use the
bigger choice of plugins on LMS.

I see the Raspberry Pi 2 is imminent. If it is easy to use, and can have
software installed via the cloud, then it might just be the ticket.

Thanks,
Nick

Don't know about that bit Nick.

The RP2 software still has to be sorted for the popular distros, but
that should happen soon.

Here is link about the 'pi

http://www.hifiwigwam.com/showthread.php?104958-IQaudIO-Pi-DAC-24-192-DAC-for-Raspberry-Pi

It explains the basics pretty well and demonstrates a few of the
pitfalls.

There are lots of these small form computers available, but the 'pi has
the best support if not the best performance (last bit very debatable)

If you live in the UK we might be able to try a 'pi out for you via the
RM.

PM me if your interested, but do some research and think carefully about
the current and future needs (this will save wasting money)

Re it's wi-fi performance it migth have wifi or not .

But a neat way to utilise such a computer is to place it and it's hard
drive close to the router and wire it , you will admin it remotely
anyway and map it's hard drive to the network . Keyboard and screen
needed only for initial setup .
LMS own web-UI is as always aviable to all computers on the network .

Ime it's preferable if the LMS server whatever it is is wired to the
network , my current HP Microserver is used this way .

Thanks guys.

I had a look at the Hi Fi Wigwam thread and it appears to involve
ordering the Pi in kit form and then building a project. Since I have no
skills in this area and a total dummy in electronics, I would like to be
able to buy some sort of finished kit, ready to use. Is this possible?

Thanks,
Nick

Nick, as a Dummy in electronics you are over qualified to build a 'pi.
:p

It is very simple.

If you are in the UK send me your address via pm and I'll post one to
you so you can play and see if it suits.
