I have -*aac = native*- in the "file type" section of advanced menu. I
can only play radio streams that are mp3. Anyone know how to play aac
radio streams?

AAC can only play natively on Touch and Radio and the Squeezelite. For
transporter, SB3, Boom etc you need a local LMS which will transcode AAC
into a Flac using faad and flac.

Assuming the player is connected through LMS
What stream are you trying to play ?
What player are you using ?

Make sure there is nothing disabled under the Flac entry in Filetypes ?

You didn't give the URL you used to play R3. BBC AAC can be either Flash
or http - Flash needs BBCiPlayerplugin.
Can you test this URL http://www.somafm.com/illstreet32.pls - this is a
straight http AAC 32kbps stream

Do you get any error message ? or does elapsed time just run on and no
audio

Under the retired iPlayer thread it was identified that my server was
not transcoding AAC and so my Classic and Duet were not playing Listen
Again, but my Radio was. It was suggested:

"From a shell prompt check that you can run faad and flac that are in
the LMS Bin directory (full path is given in LMS WebUI
Setting/Information Helper Application Folder). It's possible an update
has made them incompatible or maybe wrong permission."

I don't know how to do this and hacked around getting nowhere. In the
end I decided to reinstall. This didn't solve the issue. Is it
possible to tell me how to run them and what to do if they don't work,
please (I presume I'll know they don't work because iPlayer Listen Again
doesn't work)? (I can navigate to the Bin directory in PuTTY.)

NB:
FLAC files from my library play without issue.
File settings have Listen Again and On Demand as:
DASH->HLS->mp3->FlashAAC

To transcode, you need a working "faad" excutable in a subdirectory of
LMS Bin directory. I'm not sure whether a "faad" is built for a
Rock64.

After you have done a "cd" command and are at the Bin directory. If you
do a "ls" (small letter L, small letter S) - you have a anther
directory. The directy may depend on the arachoture of yoru system - I
don't know what a OpenVault Rock64 will be categorised. Please post the
details.

If there is only one directory, "cd" to that direetcoty - check that
directory for the folowing executables "faad", "alac", "flac", "sox" and
"wvunpack" (i.e use a "ls" command).

If "faad" is present please try the following command "./faad"

Thanks very much for getting back. There are three directories under
Bin, and they have the following files (in brackets) in them:

1. aarch64-linux (alac, flac, sox, wvunpack)
2. armhf-linux (faad, flac, mac, sox, wvunpack)
3. arm-linux (faad, flac, mac, sls, sox, wvunpack)

With the directory set to either the second or third directories,
entering -./faad- got --bash: ./faad: No such file or directory-. Ditto
for -./flac, ./mac, ./sox, ./wvunpack-

Looking in WinSCP these files under the three directories vary in size
from about 200kB to 2MB.

OMV does support these transcoders because, until two months ago when
something happened, I was able to listen to iPlayer & Extras and Soma
without issue.

Try running flac in each fo the directories to see which one runs.
e.g from Bin
aarch64-linux/flac
armhf-linux/flac
arm-linux /flac

Report which ones runs with a banner starting like

Code:
--------------------

===============================================================================
flac - Command-line FLAC encoder/decoder version 1.2.1

This is bizarre, I would have staked my life on having run ./flac on all
three directories. This time aarch64-linux responded as given below
(none responded to ./faad):

This is the short help; for all options use 'flac --help'; for even
more
instructions use 'flac --explain'

To encode:
flac [-#] [INPUTFILE [...]]

-# is -0 (fastest compression) to -8 (highest compression); -5 is the
default

To decode:
flac -d [INPUTFILE [...]]

To test:
flac -t [INPUTFILE [...]]

This is bizarre, I would have staked my life on having run ./flac on all
three directories. This time aarch64-linux responded as given below
AFACIT faad is not supplied for aarch64 which does not explain how it
was working OK but explain why trasncoding is failing now.
see
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?109755-ALAC-AAC-on-aarch64

Since none of the architecture work - you need to get a working copy of
faad for your system - not clear where the post in above thread got
their copy of faad.

Thanks for your help and ultimate diagnosis. I'll look to see how I get
faad going.

Thanks again.
