Discussion:
[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Problem with hiding lossy duplicates

Hi all, I have started to rip some of my music in flac as well as mp3. I
have checked the option in LMS for *Hide lossy duplicates if lossless
track is available*.
I have had a few problems insofar as LMS sometimes still includes the
mp3 after scanning. I eventually concluded that the tagging has to be
idential between the 2 formats to always avoid this.

However, have one major issue. On one album so far the track length of
approx 50% of the tracks is 1 second longer on mp3 than flac. The LENGTH
tag is read only and LMS seems to interpret this as a different track
and shows the mp3 as well as flac which is a bit of a pain. I tried to
edit the track length in a binary editor and it still shows up in the
tag edit as 1 second longer.

Anybody got any ideas.

Sorted it. It was just a coincidence that certain tracks had different
lengths when they also had small track name differences

Nice. Now what I'd like is the ability to stream certain versions to
different clients... I know, I'm probably the only person in the
universe who wants this.. :)

Work around , if you want to play MP3 on one player you can use LMS
feature of bitrate limiting , then LMS will transcode to a given MP3
bitrate to that player .

Bitrate limiting is in player settings , require that the OS has lame
installed .

using clock cycles to recompress on the fly. Though this is increasingly
irrelevant as things like Pi Zeros reach capabilities way beyond just
running "lame".

Yea but true duplicate detection is probably near impossible.. same
album same track won’t do it could be another version or master of the
CD hence not a dupe , just having two of an album does not always means
that they are dupes .

So transcode or weed them out the manual way , when you got a flac rip
move the MP3 out of LMS watched folders. It’s tedious I know made the
mistake of ripping my first 1200 CD’s to MP3 then ripped them again...
argh.
