Discussion:
[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Help me get the LMS working again under MacOS Mojave

I had the LMS (version 7.7.6) working under Mojave (after an upgrade
form High Sierra) with no issues.

However, a failed software updated caused me to have to rebuild my
fusion drive and reinstall a full Time Machine backup. After that, the
LMS would not start. I did a full uninstall and reinstall of version
7.7.6 and still the server will not start. Even worse, I'm unable to do
any of the other setup under the Library tab in the Preference Pane as
all of the text fields and other controls are disabled (grayed out). I
can't seem to see any logs and the Information tab is blank.

I'm quite stuck. Is there anyone out there who has successfully gotten
the server running under Mojave who might be able to help?

Most likely this is a permissions issue on some of the folders LMS uses.
You can download this little automator script to fix them:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/bpx32ytk7yghv5e/FixLMSPermissions.zip?dl=0

Extract the file, run the script, and try to start LMS again.

Maybe you should start by describing what is failing (versions), how
it's failing etc. Did you get any error message?

Ok, could you please run the following in a terminal window?

/Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/slimserver.pl

(on one single line)

What would that give you?

That exactly the issue the script linked a few postings up would fix.
Did you really try it?

Really? You think I would ask the question if it had worked?

I open the Fix LMS Permissions App
It warns me I will need to give it my password
I click OK
Input password
Get the little message upper right screen that permissions have been
fixed

I then Open the Preferences pane
Go to Logitech Media Server (version 7.9.2)
Click Start Server
get message "The Server is Starting"
then in a second or two, the message "the server is stopped" comes up.

Anything different I should be doing?

Thanks

What if you now run above command? Right after you run the fix script?

Are you running all of this as the same user? Anything special about
your system, eg. did you move the home folder? Did you rename the user?

This may be an issue. I think my initial username did change subsequent
to moving to a new computer. I had an issue using the username from my
old machine.

Thoughts? Should I look to open the old user name and re-do the process
or update permissions of my new user. It is an administrator. Is that
not enough?

Thanks. May be progress here.

Ok, in this case my fix script might fail.

Please fire up a terminal and run:

ls -l ~/Library/Logs/ | grep Squeezebox

What would that give you? Sometimes there's a problem with the
permissions on that folder (as you've seen in the test you run
previously). Make sure your user has full access to that folder and its
content.

it's a lower case l - just copy paste the command and you don't even
need to know ;-).

Ok, that's the old permissions problem my script was supposed to fix:
your log folder is owned by the superuser, but not you. And you don't
have permissions to access it. Please run:

Code:
--------------------
sudo chown XXXXX ~/Library/Logs/Squeezebox
--------------------

(where XXXXX is your user name)

Thanks. Will be home Tuesday and do it then.

Can I make my current user name a SuperUser?
