Discussion:
[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Stream from DLNA to LMS?

LMS and DLNA has been discussed here at length, some of which I know
enough to understand, some not. On my Mac I have Serviio (a DLNA server)
and VLC (a DLNA client) running fine. Serviio can in fact see my
Squeezebox Boom but I think there's no way (app, plugin) to get the
Squeezebox Boom to receive DLNA. So my question is: Is there a way to
use the stream from Serviio or VLC as input to LMS so that it can then
stream to the Squeezebox Boom? (I want to do this simply to avoid buying
another Wi-Fi-capable speaker for a room that already has the Squeezebox
Boom. Put another way, I'm hoping to stream from a Denon Heos
transmitter to the Squeezebox Boom, probably via LMS.)

Sort of the opposite.

Doesn't the DLNA/UPNP media interface plugin from A. Grundman does what
you do ? I've used it a few times to have my squeezeboxes turned in to
uPnP devices that cold be controled by various clients, including.

Thanks for responding, philippe.

(MacOS 10.10.3, LMS 7.9.0) System Preferences > Logitech Media Server >
Advanced > Advanced Settings > Plugins shows this to be present and
active: "UPnP/DLNA Media Interface - Adds a UPnP/DLNA AV MediaServer and

My understanding is that, as pointed out by garym, this plugin does sort

But I might be wrong, since I read you as saying that with this plugin
installed, your Squeezeboxes can see DLNA streams. So let me ask: Once I
have the UPnP/DLNA Media Interface installed, where do I go in the
Squeezebox Boom menu tree to access the DLNA stream?

1- The plugin of A.Grundman transforms squeezeboxes into uPnP renderers.
You then can use any control point (like BubbleUpNp I think) to send
them tracks form a uPnP server
2- The "uPnP client/networking/advanced/settings" option make LMS search
for uPnP servers and integrate their libraries into his own
3- The thread garym referred to is the application I wrote than
transforms uPnP renderers into squeezeboxes (and LMS becomes a control
point at the same time)
I think for what you are looking for 2. is what you need
I wasn't aware of that setting mentioned in option 2. This is actually
great :) I have now access to KODI, too.

Yes, but I can only initiate playback of music from KODI (or any other
UPnP source) on any of my Squeezeboxes through the LMS web interface. On
both my Boom and Radio in the menu I can see the UPnP servers but can't
start playback (just two entries: "server name" and "URL:") and in
Squeeze Ctrl I don't even have entries for the UPnP servers. Am I
missing something or ist this just not possible?

I've not used that feature a lot, but I thought that the libary
discovered on the other UPnP server was fully integrated within the LMS
library, so basically, by searching inside your artist/album in the
Boom, you would find the KODI-stored musique (I'm not sure, I'll test)

Yes, on the Boom I can see My Music > Kodi, where I have two entries:
Music Library and Video Library (that's the way KODI broadcasts it). If
I enter Music Library, I have the two entries I mentioned ("KODI" and
"URL:"), that's all. In Squeeze Ctrl on my smartphone the UPnP servers
don't even show up under My Music.

Maybe it's an issue with KODI? I'll install and try another UPnP server
to check that out.

Looks like it's a problem caused by KODI. I installed MediaTomb and with
that, it works: I can browse and play all music from the menus of my
Squeezeboxes under My Music > MediaTomb server.

Any suggestions before I take this issue to the KODI forums?

Silly question, I know, but did you enable UPnP sharing of media in KODI
seetings ?

Hi
I have recently tried to migrate from using LMS on my ReadyNAS to using
it on a Windows 10 machine. The central problem now is that my Samsung
TV used to be able to see the ReadyNAS LMS but it can't see the Windows
install. I have read about there being a DLNA plugin in existence, and
perhaps this is the key to solving this one, but I have an additional
problem, namely that the web interface for the Windows LMS server is
quite alien and seemingly primitive compared to the one on the ReadyNAS
- it's black and grey with orange highlights, instead of black and green
and flash (I think) based, has no artwork on show, and crucially, offers
no apparent access to a Plugins page, so I can't see what's available
nor install anything.

So two questions: will a DLNA plugin make the PC install visible to DLNA
detectors like my TV, and secondly, how do I install which DLNA plugin?

Thanking you in advance for your thoughts

...But you have under the "advanced", "networking" settings of LMS an
option to be a uPnP client. What it means is that LMS server will look
for uPnP servers and integrate their libraries into LMS collection (if I
remember well)....
Since I didn't see this option listed in v7.9.1 Sept 15th, 2017 build, I
went searching for it.
Assuming this is the correct setting referenced in your post, it now
appears under 'Advanced->Remote Music Libraries'.

I also don't know which version/build is the dividing line, or if it's
the result of a particular mix of plugins I have installed - just
figured I'd point it out for others...

The Remote Music Libraries plugin's UPnP/DLNA Client setting is still
broken broken - running the latest LMS 7.9.2 beta on Windows 10.

It appears the CPAN/Net/UPnP Perl modules are missing.

Manually creating the ..\Squeezebox\server\CPAN\Net\UPnP directory (the
Windows LMS version looks for the ..\Squeezebox\server\CPAN path on
startup, even though it's nonexistant) and downloading the relevant Perl
modules to it gets around the issue, after an LMS restart:

have the UPnP/DLNA Media Interface installed, where do I go in the
Squeezebox Boom menu tree to access the DLNA stream?
Hi billfish;All;
did you get any further on this?
Anyone else some insight?
I too want to stream from a windows media player to a squeezebox (using
LMS on a non-windows computer).
The reason for it:
I often rent Audio-books etc from our local library, which I can play
(for a limited time) on Windows Media Player only (since they use some
DRM technique, which WMP offers).
Since the audio on my laptop where WMP is running is crappy, I would
like to stream it to a squeezebox.

Can anyone give me an idiots guide on how to do this?
Or at least point me in some direction so I can figure it out?

Thanks and all the best;

Really? I tried that over and over and could not get it to run.
Just to confirm: Which DLNA plugin are you referring to?
Still the UPNP/DNLA Media Interface from Andy, correct?

Hi

I try to use my squeezebox as dlna renderer to stream sound from my

I have the upnp/dlna plugin active and I set setting to discover server.
But on my phone I can't see any squeezebox as dlna renderer. Maybe I
miss a step ?

Must I install dlna server ?

Thanks

Hi
I try to use my squeezebox as dlna renderer to stream sound from my
phone (android).
I have the upnp/dlna plugin active and I set setting to discover server.
But on my phone I can't see any squeezebox as dlna renderer. Maybe I
miss a step ?
Must I install dlna server ?
Thanks

What upnp/dlan did you activate ? Andy Grundman ? What app do you use on
your Android Phone ?

Only just discovered this feature.

Am trying to play to my SB3 via Skifta of bubbleupnp from my Android LG3
phone, streaming Flac & / or MP3 stored on my phone.

Unfortunately when I press play I get the message "Problem: unable to
play file type for..." followed by the track name.

Am I missing some settings here...? If so where do I need to go to find
them? Thx.

n.b. I seem to be able to use skifta & bubbleupnp to stream from LMS to
my SB3 OK (pointless I know but it proves everything is talking OK).
Does this mean it's a problem with the LG
Never tried it in a setup like this, but I know from video streaming
with BubbleUPnP, that the free version of the app does not support all
file types. Are you using the free oder paid version?

Using the free version.

Seems to work fine using Bubbleupnp on my Android, streaming from LMS to
a SB player (albeit not a particularly useful given my LMS / SB3 / Touch
setup anyway. But it also works streaming directly from a Netgear
server to the SB devices too. Only when streaming songs using the phone
do I get the error. The music files are actually copied from my LMS
setup so I know they play ok from LMS. They also play on my phone fine
via DLNA.

Anyone any suggestions?

I've just found a great offer on a HEOS link and HS3. Did anybody have
any luck streaming from a HEOS to a squeeze device (I have a BOOM)
either directly or via LMS?
